For most women,
having a baby is a joyful event – one that forever changes their
lives for the better. And while motherhood is one of the highest
callings a woman can enjoy, sometimes women lose sight that it is
important to nurture themselves as well as their families.
It wasn’t that long
ago that Joey, mother of a beautiful 18 month old and a former
clinical pediatric nutritionist, realized she had lost sight of
herself since the birth of her son. “We took a family trip to
Nebraska and like most family vacations, we took many pictures,”
said Joey. “When I looked through the photos, I realized I had
never taken the time to loose the baby weight that came with
pregnancy – and in fact, I had gained more weight than I thought, I
felt tired and stressed out most of the time and I wore big, bulky
clothes because it was easier to hide behind.”
Instead of feeling
sorry for herself, Joey decided to take charge of her health and
wellbeing. “I thought a lot about how to get back into shape,” she
reflected. “I knew that I didn’t have the self-discipline to work
out on home exercise equipment and I knew that the bigger gyms and
health clubs wouldn’t work for me. I needed a place where I could
receive personal attention and not get lost in a crowd.”
Joey discovered
Roxanne’s and was immediately welcomed into the Studio community.
“It’s wonderful to be surrounded by people who have similar goals
and support each other as we reach our goals together,” she
remarked. “There’s a bond of friendship that has been formed with
each other – and it’s exactly what I need to be successful in
keeping and maintaining a fit lifestyle.”
Since she joined,
Joey’s been able to fit into her pre-pregnancy clothes. “My husband
is thrilled!” she said. “Just the other day, he said he’s been
noticing I’m taking more pride in myself. I’m dressing up and
wearing make up. I have more energy and am much more active – I can
even keep up with my little one!”
She smiled and then
shared a private moment. “For a while, I had focused only on being
Mom and kind of forgot about how to be an attractive woman. Now that
I’m back to myself, my husband is delighted. Just the other day, he
laughed with me and said he’s glad that the woman he married has
finally gotten back from her ‘extended vacation.’ I’m so glad to be
back to my normal self!"
When asked to share
thoughts about starting a fitness program, Joey shared the following
gems:
Go for it! Take the time and invest in a
fitness program because you will see results, both physically
and emotionally. You’ll feel much healthier, less stressed out
and much happier.
Be patient with yourself and set realistic
expectations. Start your program with an understanding that
results will not be overnight. It took a while to get to the
place you are now and it will take some time to get to your goal
– but the results will come. Remember to take it at your pace,
whatever that pace may be.
Join a place where you get personal
attention. The encouragement and recognition is critical in
maintaining your motivation.
Keep up the great
work, Joey! We think the world of you, our attractive, confident
friend.
“Be patient with yourself and set realistic expectations ... Go for
it - you will see results!”
