Competitive Marathon Runner, Joanna Catches The
Benefits of Pilates
Being part of law enforcement, Joanna has to
be on her toes and ready to run constantly. She’s always working on
exciting cases – one of which is herself. Joanna has been dedicated
to her body and her goals for the past fifteen years, which is why
she came to Roxanne’s Studio last fall.
Joanna is a single woman from Colorado who
moved to Chicago nearly eight years ago. She enjoys traveling and
any type of outdoor activity. Joanna’s basic routine and focus is on
running, light weight lifting and her twice a week sessions at 5:30
in the morning with Nancy, our Pilates instructor. Over the past
year, Joanna has been able to see and feel the difference the
workouts have been making on her body.
“I fell in love with Pilates because it
helped my running by elongating my leg muscles,” says Joanna, “I’ve
noticed a difference in how my clothes fit and can definitely tell
my core is stronger.”
Joanne has been running in and to different
cities all over the country to participate in marathons and races.
Her favorite race is the Bolder Boulder 10K, and she has been
running in it for the past seven years. “Racing gives a sense of
purpose to all the training, regardless of my finishing times (which
have slowed as I’ve gotten older).”
Pilates has helped Joanna create and sculpt
stronger and leaner leg muscles, which enable her to run better.
Joanna learned how to work out and get the most out of each session,
she’s worked hard to get where she is now, and the results are not
only physical, but mental too.
Great job Joanna! You’ve really solved the
case!
Joanne’s Three Gems
of Wisdom
I don’t believe
that self-care is selfish. You can’t take care of others if you
don’t take care of yourself. Don’t feel guilty about spending
time working out.
It’s takes a
while to learn, but I believe in the philosophy that before
getting upset about something, I stop and think if what I’m
getting upset about is going to matter in one year, one month or
even one week. If not, why let it bother me.
Most
importantly, people matter more than work. No matter how many
hours you spend at work, it will always be there. So make time
to be with people you love.
“Self-care is not selfish ... You can't take
care of others if you don't take care of yourself.”
