Class Overview
Classes are divided into
different levels to meet individual student needs and provide a path for
progression.
Private lessons are also available by appointment.
Level 1 – An introduction to
classic-style Egyptian dance, Level 1 introduces basic movements and
simple, yet elegant, dance choreography. Session 1 features a dance
without accessories; session 2 introduces cymbals and session 3
highlights veils. All formats of Level 1 must be taken
before advancing to Level 2. Prerequisite: None
Level 2 –Technique class focuses on perfecting
basic movements, as well as learning intermediate dance routines.
Students are expected to bring both veil and cymbals each week because
class material constantly changes. Prerequisite: All themes from
Level 1 and instructor approval.
Level 3 – Aimed at students who want to
increase their skills, Level 3 builds on Level 1 and 2 with intermediate
choreography and technique. Dances may include veils or cymbals or not
require any accessory. Students are expected to practice outside of
class time. Prerequisite: All themes from Level 1, four sessions
of Level 2 and instructor approval.
Level 4 – For the
serious student with an interest in performance, classes focus on
advanced choreography and may include topics such as Creating a Solo
Performance and Improvisation Techniques. Students are expected to
practice outside of class time. Prerequisite: Entry to Level 4
for the first time is by invitation only and must be accompanied by
registration in Level 3.
Desert Flames (Professional Dance
Company) - The professional belly dance troupe of the Western
Suburbs! The Desert Flames perform in multiple venues such as parades,
cultural festivals, fund raisers, corporate events and birthday parties.
Auditions required, by invitation only. Auditions take place once a
year.
Special Workshops – Life-long
learning is a key value of Roxanne’s. To promote continued learning in
the art of Belly Dance, Roxanne occasionally hosts special workshops
with esteemed artists from around the country. Workshops are typically
held at the Studio on Sunday afternoons. Workshop fees are separate
from class tuition.
Class Structure Belly Dance classes are taught in
6-week sessions and meet once a week for 55 minutes. During the 6
weeks, students learn technique and a beautifully choreographed dance.
Each class begins with a warm up, focus on technique, choreography and a
cool down.
